[Netease smart news November 5 news] In order to allow electric cars to truly replace the fuel car, the need for a better network of car charging stations around the world. Today, several major automakers including BMW, Daimler and VW Group have announced a joint project to develop and build such a network in Europe.
The cooperative group plans to build a high-power charging (high-performance) network on major routes in Germany, Norway and Austria. Each site will build a 350-kilowatt charging point with the goal of opening 20 charging stations by the end of 2017 and then increasing the total number to more than 100 in 2018. By 2020, they hope to have 400 high-performance charging stations put into operation.
IONITY will certainly compete with Tesla, who already has supercharged stations throughout Europe and plans to add more charging stations.
Just last month, Elon Musk announced that it will build a supercharger station in Norway with 42 charging stations, which is also the largest charging station they have built in Europe. A super charging station has a capacity of 145 kilowatts, and the charging time of the IONITY charging station is much shorter and may cause some Tesla car users to choose to use them.
Whether these charging stations are owned by Tesla or other car manufacturers, building more charging stations will only be a good thing. By making it easier for drivers to use electric vehicles to drive longer distances, they have eliminated one of the most important drawbacks of using electric vehicles.
"The first pan-European network of high-performance charging stations plays a crucial role in building the electric vehicle market," Michael Hajesch, CEO of IONITY, said in a press release. "IONITY will achieve our common goal of providing customers with fast charging and digital payment, which will facilitate people's long-distance travel."
