October 04, 2023

Electronic enthusiasts eight o'clock in the morning: New energy vehicles have become the mainstream topic of automotive development. On the eve of the Shanghai Auto Show, SAIC-GM officially released the VELITE 5, the first extended-range hybrid car under the Buick brand. On the following May 10th, many media participated in the test drive of Buick VELITE 5, and took a close look at its "Fang Rong".

According to official data, VELITE 5 has a pure electric range of 116km, a comprehensive cruising range of 768km, a fuel consumption of 0.9L/100km in a comprehensive working condition, a top speed of 160km/h and an acceleration of 9.2s per 100km.

This means that the new car can achieve zero fuel consumption within a certain mileage, which will bring economic and environmentally friendly travel experience, and can avoid the embarrassment that pure electric vehicles can't travel because of limited cruising range and imperfect charging facilities.

VELITE 5 launched a total of 2 models, of which the urban extension range price is 265,800 yuan, the fashion extension type price is 295,800 yuan; after enjoying the 36,000 yuan Buick blue new energy model car purchase subsidy, the terminal price is 229,800 yuan and 25.98 million yuan. At the same time, the Buick brand also offered 18 interest-free value-added financial programs, three-year intercity travel guarantee services, ten years of free maintenance, and three-year on-site vehicle double inspections.

On April 18, 2016, the Buick brand officially announced the “Buick Blue” strategy, and Buick will launch at least three new energy vehicles in the next three years. As the first step of SAIC's new energy strategy, Buick Blue is included in SAIC GM's entire new energy 2020 strategy.

According to the statistics of China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, from 2010 to 2016, the number of new energy vehicle production and sales in China has developed by leaps and bounds. In 2014, the production of new energy vehicles was 78,500 units, with sales of 74,800 units. In 2015, the output of new energy vehicles reached 340,500 units, with sales of 331,100 units. In 2016, new energy vehicles produced 517,000 units and sold 507,000 units, compared with the same period of the previous year. They increased by 51.7% and 53% respectively.

The Chinese market has become the largest market for new energy vehicles in the world, and it is also the market with the fastest growth rate. It has also spurred major auto companies to bring new energy vehicles to China quickly.

Wang Yongqing, general manager of SAIC General Motors, announced that SAIC GM will push 1-2 pure electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles every year by 2020 to realize the whole system from hybrid and plug-in hybrid to extended-range electric and pure electric. New energy vehicle coverage; in addition to VELITE 5, Buick also has two new energy vehicles, Chevrolet and Cadillac brands will also have new energy vehicle layout.

VELITE 5 is the first joint venture brand domestically produced extended-range hybrid vehicle, marking the further acceleration of the new energy strategy of Buick Blue. In addition to the concept of "new energy", VELITE 5 also focuses on the concept of intelligent drive, intelligent interconnection, and intelligent security.

It uses EREV extended range electric drive technology, installs the tenth generation OnStar Anji Star full-time online assistant, program-controlled charging experience, instant charging, delayed charging, charging according to departure time and electricity price, positioning charging, etc.

According to relevant statistics, in 2016, GM's sales in China reached 3.87 million units, an increase of 7.1% year-on-year. The Chinese market has become the world's largest market for GM for the fifth consecutive year, with sales accounting for one-third of its global sales in 2016.
